Position: IT Senior Infrastructure Specialist

Location: Albuquerque, NM

Job Description:

  • Analyzes infrastructure needs and contributes to design, integration and installation of present and future technology including communication with vendors regarding available products, enhancements and services.
  • Tests and evaluates hardware/software to determine efficiency, reliability and compatibility with existing systems.
  • Monitors and maintains infrastructure stability while performing root cause analysis related to malfunctioning or inoperative hardware/software and routine maintenance including scheduled maintenance and backups.
  • Manages and coordinates telecommunications activities concerned with planning, acquisition, design, installation, and maintenance of voice, data, and video equipment and systems for an organization.
  • Leads and participates in studies conducted on existing communications system and equipment, such as present and projected volume of communications, effectiveness and adequacy of system, and estimated equipment replacement and maintenance costs.
  • Provide analysis, planning, design and execution of infrastructure projects including maintenance and creation of documentation related to all components.
  • Ensure the reliability, integrity and usability of SCADA field, two-way radios and telecommunications equipment as directed.
  • Coordinates installation of hardware/software by third-parties.
  • Provides support and training to users relevant to all installed or future infrastructure.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Develops an emergency plan to deal with a catastrophic event and ensures plan is updated to meet current business needs.
  • Provides all setup, configuration, moves, etc. to support new hires and movement of personnel and offices.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Required:  High School Diploma

Preferred:  Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology

Licenses/Certifications

Required: 

  • Must at all times possess a valid driver’s license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements of the company.
  • Electrical Safety Awareness Training (AC/DC) within six months.
  • Ability to obtain Tower Climbing Certification within six months.
  • Ability to obtain Advanced CPR (remote) certification within six months.

Preferred:

  • Cisco Certifications

Related Experience:

Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience including experience in field operations of SCADA systems.
  • Experience in 2-way mobile radio, base station/repeater systems.

Preferred:

  • Utility information technology and/or Cisco experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required:

  • In-depth knowledge of data communications, radio frequency, and telecommunications principals and interfaces.
  • Ability to use network monitoring tools to gather network statistics and interpret into meaningful information.
  • Ability to identify and evaluate infrastructure needs to justify and recommend solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of latest Windows operating system specifications and operation.
  • Advanced knowledge of transmission control protocol and internet protocol (TCP/IP) simple network management protocol (SNMP) for management of network devices, and open systems interconnection reference model (OSI) with emphasis on the bottom three layers.
  • Advanced knowledge of LAN topologies such as switching, fast Ethernet, and virtual LAN.
  • Working knowledge of electronic/telecommunications AC/DC electrical system.
  • Must have proficient knowledge in the operation and mechanics of all types of electrical, instrumentation and communication equipment.
  • Must possess good computer skills and experience with Microsoft Suite.
